Swim wear from the 50's

Vintage Swimwear

10SEP
I  have a fascination with vintage swim wear..probably due to the fact that they cover up most of the parts you hate on your body ( at least for me ) but still you can manage to look great in them ! Okay it does  not cover up my thighs :( on this one …I think I need to go to the roaring 20′s  for the true perfect fit for me :) :) LOL
Their was a magazine photo that I fell in love with ,and here is the out come of that photo!
The end of the fifties and new development in fabrics saw the discovery of Lycra or spandex this was to later revolutionize swim wear.
The 1950′s was the decade to get out and look good.Elegance was an important factor for fifties fashion. Hollywood also had a major role to play in influencing the 1950’s clothing.

Summer inspired 50′s halter Dress

10SEP
I’ll be honest I am not sure if I like this dress.Due to me being  unsure about this dress,it actually has a lot of finishing I need to do .Inside the seams should be serged the neck straps actually finished….
I am not sure what it is I do not really like about the dress. Possibly I think it is the fabric ! No…I Know it is the pattern of the fabric i do not like about this dress! I am not sure where I stand about it now .DO I finish it off?? Toss it in the back corner ?
BTW …if you wonder how come my dress form the dress looks different on it then me ….hence I always hated the fact I have long legs and a short Torso :(  I always wanted to try and make a duct tape dress form so that it is fitted to me more ,but that would need my husband to help me a little with , and he has ideas of what is and is not manly to help your wife with !
Now thinking about it …what I may not like about the dress is that it looks better on my dress form then me :(

Simplicity 2681-A Sunday afternoon project

The Sunday Sheath dress

12SEP
My Sunday was spent completing the sheath dress I started before summer.Actually it still is not completed technically.
One day out of this week Fabricland for the zipper purchase, and the sleeves and hem must be finished.
My husband actually decided yesterday to stay at home and watch the games(football) on TV,instead of his usually departure to hang out with the guys ,a tradition he had way before he even met me .
From 2-8 I spent it constructing the garment ,in between looking at a couple of Movies on TCM.
The reason I had stopped before was the fact after a while I decided I was not sure about the red polyester fabric.
.I seem to have a bad habit of this but the good thing is I also have this characteristic that letting fabric sit there ready for sewing and abandoned annoys me.
Initially the pattern had a waste band on it .I did not like it so I have removed that from what will be the finished product.
View 2 on it has a high collar but being a person who could never wear turtle necks ,as it just annoyed me having something around my neck like and the bow is cute ,but not for me .Therefore view 1 with out the waist belt was my choice.

I guess all together it was a useful Sunday spent !And I am glad I did  start on my mission to complete it  .
I am an ebay addict :( Okay with over 500 feedback I guess I need to avoid that website as my bank account is feeling it !
Anyone can recommend a good therapist? But if I was not idle that night and wandering around ebay how would I ever of found this matching 60′s Italian purse to go with my wiggle dress ?:):)

The other “family ” pictures

13SEP
Same machine.Just some photos are the after shots of my clean up .She did not come with a table so I placed her in a case that I had repaired. The case came from a very dishonest seller!!! You see I had purchased a machine from him ,way back when I was a novice collector. And had no clue about the cases or tables. When him and his wife showed me the machine they did not advise the case was broken .Infact he insisted on lifting it all the way to my car and placing it in . I know why now because the bottom was all broken and the case was falling apart! He had said it was just because it would of been to heavy for me :(Anyways the machine that was originally in it could work by itself on a table , but this one needs a table or case in order to work properly because the gears touch the bottom . In order to get it to it’s clean state. I used “Turtle wax” bug and tar remover (yes from the auto section from Canadian tire) covered it and let it sit for a few hours and then elbow work
I purchased this one from a  lady near by for 40.00 who is a worse collector then I am !!! She was just making room for more machines and selling her duplicates .
THIS IS A PROJECT MACHINE !!! I received her for free.No cams .No accesories. Her motor is DEAD!
YES you heard me DEAD ! I have a donor ELENA , Once I have free time I plan to start doing some research and tinker around with it , for I have never been a girl afraid of machinery. In fact my parents were afraid of me ! At the age of four I was already unscrewing stereos etc to see how they worked. My sister’s radio shack purple portable radio had only last a day after it was brought home because  her little sister ( me ) had to see what was inside.
Okay details …that purple radio never worked again !
